The High School Wrap Check
…by Brandon Fortier
Week Eleven: May 15, 2006
WRAP CHECK WRECAPS
DIVISON I
First Round: Play-In
5/11
Curtis 6, Bellevue 5
• In an absolute shocker to most, the Vikings got half their goals from
freshmen and 20 sves from an emergency goalie to beat a team they had
lost to by 10 goals earlier this season. The Vikings jumped to a 2-0
lead and led 5-4 at the half. Bellevue tied the game in the third
quarter, but freshman, Jamie Yergler’s 2nd goal of the evening gave
Curtis the lead again early in the 4th. Jamie’s older brother Jordan
made 11 second half saves in cage to hold off the Wolverines and the
Vikings pulled the upset.
Quarterfinals
5/12
Bainbridge 17, Lakeside 4
•Spartans got 4 goals and 3 assists from Dylan Masi to bury the Lions
and coast into the semi-finals.
5/13
Garfield 12, Curtis7
•For awhile it looked like the Vikings might have enough juice to pull a
second huge upset. Game didn’t start that way as Drew Snider scored
two in the first 1:30 to put the Bulldogs up. But, Curtis didn’t panic.
They settled in and began to chip away. Unfortunately, they were on
the wrong side of a questionable goal call. The ball appeared to hit
the top pipe, carom down and out. However, referee ruled it had hit the
net on the underneath side of the pipe. Curtis still kept composure
and battled back, only down 7-6 early in the 4th. Caldwell Rohrbach
stepped up for Garfield and scored 3 in the final quarter and Garfield
escaped with a 12-7 victory.
Issaquah 12, Seattle Prep 8
•Prep led 4-2 midway through the 2nd quarter, but Issaquah scored goals
at 2:25, 2:08, 1:57, and 1:33; 4 goals in the span of less than a minute
that completely changed the game and put Issaquah in front for good.
Nick Yaap and David Campi each tallied 3 goals and 1 assist. Garrett
Johnson made 12 saves to ward off a pesky Panther squad.
Mercer Island 19, Vashon 2
•Beating Mercer Island earlier this season did little to help Vashon’s
case come playoff time. If anything, it appeared to make the Islanders a
bit angry and that much more focused. Furthermore, Vashon played
without top defender, Duncan Mayshark and attackman, Michael Serko.
Serko scored 6 goals in that win over Mercer earlier in the year. The
huge hole on defense showed as this one was essentially in the books
before most had settled into their seats…it was 5-0 before you had a
chance to blink. At the Islanders just kept it coming…14 goals by
halftime and 19 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Aj Ellis scored 5 before
haltime. Even the defenders were getting into the act. Adam Brazg
scored and Brant Howell had a goal and an assist. Kevin Mahony had 5
goals and 5 assists. Vashon simply had no answers. Mercer scored at
will and heads into the semis playing with a lot of confidence.

DIVISION II
Quarterfinals
5/12
Overlake 8, Tacoma 7 (ot)
•The Owls pulled the biggest shocker in DII knocking off the #2 seed and
previously unbeaten Tacoma Dragons. Overlake led 2-1 at the end of the
1st after a shot just after the horn for Tacoma was disallowed. Nick
Guren and George Dolack each scored twice to help push Overlake to a 7-4
lead in the 3rd quarter. Then a strange situation led to each team
having two men sent to the penalty box with non-releasable penalties.
But, Tacoma scored 3 goals in the ensuing 4v4 to tie the game. A
gut-wrenching 4th quarter went scoreless and the game went to overtime.
George Dolack put the capper on his hat-trick scoring #3 with 58
seconds left to send the Owls to the semifinals!
Lynnwood 16, Puyallup 3
•Lynnwood got 4 goals each from Alex Burns and Curtis Wisser to cruise
into the semis. Puyallup ends an impressive 1st year campaign with a 8-5
overall record
5/13
Eastlake 19, Klahowya 2
•Eastlake looked like the team to beat coming out of the quarterfinals
as they absolutely dismantled Klahowya. 11 different players scored
goals for the Wolves, led by 3 goals each from the unlikely duo of
Turner Lee and Jeff Gillies.
Skyline 13, Snohomish 5
•Skyline was able to accomplish what the other first year program
(Puyallup) couldn’t; win a playoff game. Surprisingly, the Spartans
handled the Panthers with ease. The win sets up a 3rd meeting with next
door rival, Eastlake.

WEEK’s BEST WRAP CHECKS
• Jordan Yergler, SR, Attack (Goal), Curtis
Curtis’ 5th leading scorer, Yergler stepped between the pipes to fill in
for Curtis in a do or die playoff game. All he did was make a
remarkable 20 saves and help Curtis pull a shocking victory over
Bellevue.
• George Dolack, FR, Attack, Overlake
Having only scored 1 goal in the final three games of the regular season
(2 of them losses), Dolack scored 3 goals against Tacoma in a playoff
win. His third goal was scored in Overtime and sends the Owls to the
semifinals.
GAMES TO WATCH: May 17th – May 20th
Division I Semi-Finals
5/17
Issaquah @ Garfield
Garfield took the regular season battle 8-7 in overtime. Can the
Bulldogs reach their first ever championship game or will Issaquah fight
it’s way back to the title game?
Mercer Island @ Bainbridge
After years of classic playoff battles these two didn’t meet in the
playoffs last year. Now they are back at it. This one will be rowdy
and a ton of fun!
Division II Semi-Finals
Overlake @ Lynnwood
Can the defensive minded Owls keep the high scoring Tiger offense in
check? They did to an orange team last week. Can the magic ride
continue?
Skyline @ Eastlake
The success of the first year program at Skyline is quickly making this
one of the best rivalries. Schools are a mile apart and play for the
third time this season. Eastlake took the first two, but both were
close. Can third time be the charm for the Spartans?
